Kodi Tamatar (Andhra Chicken with Tomatoes)

Ingredients:
Chicken – 1 1/4 kg
Ghee – 1/2 cup
Blackck Cardamoms – 6
Cinnamon – 1 inch stick
Cloves – 4
Onions – 4, finely sliced
Ginger Paste – 1 tsp
Garlic Paste – 1 tsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tblsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 tsp, dry roasted
Cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp, dry roasted
Tomatoes – 500 gms, peeled and chopped
Tamarind Pulp – 1 tsp
Water
Curry Leaves – 6
Green Chillies – 4, chopped
Salt as per taste

Method:
1. Clean and joint chicken.
2. Heat ghee in a pan.
3. Fry cardamoms, cinnamon and cloves till cardamoms swell.
4. Add the onions and fry.
5. Add ginger, garlic, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander, cumin and fry together.
6. Add the chicken and fry till brown.
7. Add tomatoes and tamarind pulp.
8. Simmer till chicken is cooked, adding a cup of water.
9. Once the tomatoes are pureed and the oil surfaces, add curry leaves, green chillies and salt.
10. Leave covered to simmer for a few more minutes.
11. Remove and serve hot with rice or roti.
