Arisi Upma

Ingredients

  • 2 cup Raw Rice
  • 1/2 cup Toor Dal
  • 2 tsp Black Peppercorns
  • 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 5 Dry Red Chillies
  • 1 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Coconut grated
  • 2 tsp Ghee

For tempering:

  • as required Oil
  • few Curry Leaves
  • 4 Dry Red Chillies
  • 2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 2 tsp Urad Dal

Instructions

  • Wash the rice and dal together.
  • Add peppercorns, cumin seeds and red chillies.
  • Add enough water and soak them for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Drain well and grind to a coarse rawa consistency, adding some more water.
  • Keep aside until required.
  • Heat 2 to 3 tblsp oil in a pan over medium flame.
  • Fry the tempering ingredients for 30 seconds.
  • Add the ground rice and dal to the pan.
  • Add salt and pour 3 cups of water.
  • Cover the pan with a lid and simmer for a 5 to 6 minutes or until tender.
  • Add ghee and coconut.
  • Mix well and remove from flame.
  • Serve hot.
