Ingredients:
Black-eyed Peas – 1 cup
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
Clarified Butter – 1/2 cup
Onions – 1/2 cup, chopped
Garlic – 2 tsp, chopped
Ginger – 2 tsp, chopped
Whole Red Chillies – 3
Tomatoes – 1/2 cup, chopped
Coriander Seeds – 1 tsp
Red Chilli Powder – 2 tsp
Cumin Powder – 2 tsp
Coriander Powder – 2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
Method:
1. Boil the black-eyed peas in a pressure cooker with turmeric powder, salt, asafoetida and 3 cups of water for 15-20 minutes.
2. Heat the clarified butter in a kadai, add the onions, garlic, ginger and whole red chillies.
3. Saute till light brown.
4. Add the tomatoes, coriander seeds, red chilli powder, cumin powder and coriander powder.
5. Fry till the tomatoes turn soft.
6. Pour in the boiled black-eyed peas mixture with the water.
7. Mix well.
8. Serve hot.
