Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen veggies instead of fresh?

Surely. Frozen veggies are a convenient and nutritious option. Just be sure to thaw and drain them thoroughly before adding them to the pie filling. You may need to adjust the seasoning a bit since frozen veggies can sometimes be less flavorful.

Can I make this dish vegetarian/vegan?

Yes, you can easily adapt this recipe. For a vegetarian version, just omit the cheese or use a dairy-free alternative. To make it vegan, swap the butter for a plant-based option and skip the cheese altogether.

How do I get that perfect golden crust on top?

The secret is in the breadcrumb topping. Make sure to generously coat the top with melted butter or oil before sprinkling on the breadcrumbs. This will help them get nice and crispy in the oven.

Can I make this pie ahead of time?

Surely. You can assemble the pie a day or two in advance and keep it refrigerated until you’re ready to bake it. Just allow a bit of extra baking time if it’s going into the oven chilled.

What sides pair well with this potato pie?

This hearty pie is delicious served alongside a fresh green salad, steamed veggies, or even a comforting soup like tomato basil or broccoli cheddar. A slice of crusty bread or dinner rolls also makes a great accompaniment.
