Ingredients:
Green Gram Dal – 1/2 cup
Ginger – 1/2 inch piece
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Potato – 1 big, boiled
Onions – 1/2 cup, finely chopped
Green Chillies – 2, slit
Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves – few
Tomatoes – 2, finely chopped
Salt as required
Sambar Powder – 1/2 tsp
Lime – 1
Coriander Leaves – 1 tblsp
Oil – 1 1/2 tblsp
Grind to paste:
Fresh Coconut – 1 1/2 tblsp, grated
Poppy Seeds – 1/2 tsp
Aniseeds – 1/4 tsp
Cinnamon – 1/2 inch piece
Cloves – few
Method:
1. Wash and cook dal with chopped ginger and turmeric powder. Mash it well.
2. Heat oil in a pan, season with cumin seeds, green chillies, curry leaves and then add chopped onions.
3. Stir till it turns golden and then add chopped tomatoes.
4. Cook till tomatoes become pulpy.
5. Add mashed dal, mashed potato, ground masala paste, salt and sambar powder.
6. Add little water if needed.
7. Cook well.
8. Squeeze lime and garnish with coriander leaves.
