Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this dish vegetarian or vegan?

Surely. You can substitute the chicken with firm tofu, paneer, or a mix of vegetables like cauliflower, potatoes, and bell peppers. Replace the yoghurt with coconut milk or cashew cream for a vegan version.

How can I adjust the spice level?

If you prefer a milder dish, reduce the chilli powder or choose a mild chilli variety. Conversely, add more chilli powder or toss in a few sliced green chillies for a spicier kick.

Can I use frozen or pre-cooked chicken?

While fresh chicken is ideal, you can use frozen chicken breasts or pre-cooked rotisserie chicken for convenience. Adjust the cooking time accordingly and add the pre-cooked chicken towards the end to avoid overcooking.

What can I substitute for coconut if I don’t have it?

If you don’t have coconut, replace it with cashew paste or unsweetened almond milk to maintain the creamy texture.

How can I make this dish in advance?

A: Chicken Badshah is perfect for meal prep. Prepare the dish as directed, but don’t add the cashew topping. Once cooled, refrigerate or freeze in portions. When ready to serve, reheat gently on the stovetop and garnish with fresh cashews.
