Ingredients:
Fish – 125 gms, washed, cubed
Onion – 1, small, chopped
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1/2 tsp
Oil – 1 1/2 tblsp
Salt as per taste
Sugar – a small pinch
Vinegar as per taste
For the Masala:
Kashmiri Red Chillies – 6
Cumin Seeds – 1/4 tsp
Black Peppercorns – 6
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Onion – 1/4, small, chopped (optional)
Ginger – 1/4 inch piece
Garlic – 6 cloves
Tamarind – 2 tsp
Sugar – 1/2 tsp
Salt – 1/2 tsp
Vinegar – 3 tblsp
Method:
1. Sprinkle salt on the fish and keep aside for a few minutes.
2. Heat oil in a pan over moderate flame.
3. Saute the onions till soft.
4. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for 30 seconds.
5. Grind the masala ingredients to make 2 tblsp of spice paste.
6. Add this to the pan and stir-fry for a minute or two.
7. Add little water if required.
8. Pour 3/4 cup of water and bring to a boil.
9. Reduce flame and cover the pan with a lid.
10. Simmer for 10 minutes.
11. Now add the marinated fish, salt and sugar.
12. Simmer for 5 more minutes till gravy is thick and fish is cooked.
13. Add vinegar if required and remove from heat.
14. Serve hot with rice or roti.
