BBQ Jerk Chicken is a fusion of two beloved cooking styles – the smoky richness of barbecue meets the fiery kick of Jamaican jerk seasoning. This recipe combines the best of both worlds, creating an unforgettable taste sensation that’s sure to become a new family favorite.
About the Recipe
If you’re looking for a dish that packs a serious punch of flavor, this BBQ Jerk Chicken is calling your name. The blend of aromatic spices, tangy vinegar, and a touch of sweet brown sugar creates an incredible marinade that infuses every bite with bold Caribbean flair. Grill it up for a taste of the islands in your own backyard.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Where do I start? The marinade is an absolute knockout – perfectly balanced between sweet, savory, and spicy notes. The chicken stays incredibly juicy and tender thanks to the brown sugar marinade. Plus, you get that irresistible charred flavor from the grill. Trust me, one bite of these sizzling jerk chicken pieces and you’ll be utterly hooked.
Cooking Tips
For maximum flavor, let the chicken marinate for at least 4 hours (or up to 24 hours for extra zing). Be sure to reserve some of that tasty marinade for basting while grilling. And don’t be afraid of a little char – those lightly blackened bits are pure flavor gold.
Serving and Storing Suggestions
This makes a fantastic summer cookout main course, with enough to feed a family of 4-6. Pair it with cool sides like jicama slaw and sweet plantains to balance the heat. Leftovers will keep in the fridge for 3-4 days. Total prep time is just 20 minutes, plus marinating.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use chicken breasts instead of thighs?
Surely. Chicken breasts work great too – just keep an eye on them while grilling since white meat can dry out faster. You may need to reduce the grill time slightly.
Is this dish very spicy?
It without a doubt has a kick from the chili flakes and powder, but the sweetness from the brown sugar and honey helps balance out the heat. If you prefer things milder, you can reduce the amount of chili seasonings.
Can I bake this instead of grilling?
For sure. The baking instructions are included – just cook at 350°F for 25-30 minutes. You’ll miss that quintessential grill flavor, but baking is a great hands-off option.
How long will the leftovers keep?
Stored in an airtight container, the cooked jerk chicken will stay fresh for 3-4 days in the fridge. It also freezes well for longer storage.
What sides pair well with jerk chicken?
This dish is fantastic with cooling sides to temper the spice, like a crisp cabbage slaw, rice and peas, fried plantains, or even a dollop of mango salsa. You could also keep things simple with roasted veggies or a fresh salad.
