Mochakottai or Butter Beans (or Lima Beans) is a popular ingredient down South. They are often used to make sambars or sundals.
Ingredients:
Mochakottai (Butter Beans/Lima Beans) – 500 gms, peeled
Onions – 2, finely chopped
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tblsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt as per taste
For Tempering:
Oil – 2 tblsp
Cinnamon – 2 inch piece
Saunf – 1 tsp
Curry Leaves – few
For the Masala:
Coconut – 1/4 cup, grated
Gasagasa (Khuskhus) – 1 tsp
Saunf – 2 tsp
Garlic – 4 to 5 cloves
Method:
1. Wash and rinse the mochakotta well.
2. Grind the masala ingredients without adding water.
3. Heat oil in a pan.
4. Fry the tempering ingredients for 30 seconds.
5. Add the onions and saute for 2 to 3 minutes.
6. Add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder and stir.
7. Add the mochakottai and salt.
8. Pour 3/4 to 1 cup of water and cook for 5 to 8 minutes or until the mochakottai is soft.
9. Add the masala and mix well.
10. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
11. Remove and serve hot with rice, roti or dosa.
