Ingredients:
Pachai Payaru (Green Gram) – 1/2 cup
Raw Rice – 1/2 cup
Onions – 2, finely chopped
Tomatoes – 2, finely chopped
Green Chillies – 2, finely chopped
Black Pepper Powder – 1/4 tsp
Cumin Powder – 1/4 tsp
Coriander Leaves – handful, chopped
Cashewnuts – 8 to 10, fried in little ghee
Cinnamon – a small piece
Clove – 1
Ghee as required
Oil as required
Salt as per taste
Method:
1. Wash the green gram and rice well.
2. Soak them in 2 cups of water for 2 hours.
3. Heat oil and ghee in a pressure pan.
4. Fry the cinnamon and clove for 30 seconds.
5. Add the tomatoes, onions and green chillies.
6. Stir-fry for a minute or two.
7. Add salt, coriander leaves and stir well.
8. Add the rice and green gram along with the water.
9. Pressure cook without weight for 5 minutes and cook with the weight for another 5 to 10 minutes over low flame.
10. Remove from flame.
11. Add pepper powder, cumin powder, cashewnuts and 1 tsp ghee.
12. Mix well and serve with side dish of choice.
